Connecting with Gaia: Great Mother
Goddess of the Earth
Gaia is the name given to the Earth Mother
Goddess of Ancient Greece; she is a
primordial deity that expresses the divine
feminine principle and is considered to be
the mother of all life and all forms of life
throughout the entire Universe! Gaia isn’t
just a deity, she is also considered to be the
physical embodiment of the divine feminine
as expressed as the planet we live on. The
3-dimensional, physical earth, is her body;
the people and animals are her children and
the trees, flowers and natural cycles of the
natural world reflect her mysterious and
magickal tides. To learn about Gaia, we don’t
have to meditate or study special
philosophies; we don’t need to attend a
church or visit a sacred site; all we have to
do, is tune in to our 3D reality and connect
with the earth that sustains, protects,
nourishes and loves us. Finding our
grounding is a vital part of our spiritual
practice and connecting with Mother Gaia
can help us to do that.
Many spiritual teachers put an emphasis on
elevating your consciousness beyond the
limitations of 3D reality. However, expanding
your consciousness shouldn’t take you out of
3D reality but rather, should allow you to
connect with higher states as well as your
3D state so that you can fully embody your
highest spiritual aspects. Without the 3-
dimensional earth-centric connection, your
spiritual aspirations remain aspirational
because they don’t have any route for
manifestation! Connecting with Gaia can
help you to find your roots and remind you
how sacred and essential your worldly form
and the work you do here is. The way you
live your life and the way you connect with
the earth that is your home can be part of
your spiritual practice if you approach it
mindfully.
In this article I want to discuss a few ways
you can bring this earthy energy into your
life in ways that will support your spiritual
growth. Before we get onto the energy
healing techniques, let’s consider a few
simple but powerful habits that you could
start today to help bring yourself into a
deeper alignment with Mother Gaia.
My first recommendation is to go outside!
Being in nature is easiest way to connect
with Gaia. In Japan, a relaxation practice
called “shinrin yoku” is also called “forest
bathing” and involves getting out into the
woods and spending time in meditation
around the trees. This practice doesn’t have
to be complicated. You don’t need to take
specialised equipment with you and you
don’t need to follow a special meditation
technique to feel the benefits. In fact, you
don’t even need to sit down and consciously
relax to experience the healing power of
nature with this method. Going for a slow
walk through the woods can relax your mind
and open your energy field to the energy of
the earth herself. The colours, smells and
beautiful scenery can soothe your soul in
ways that nothing else can! As the sun
shines through the green leaves, the light
lends itself to heart-centred healing. The
energy of the Heart Chakra is typically
depicted as green or pink, so spending time
in a place with a lot of greenery can be
particularly helpful in balancing the heart
centre. If you have no actual woodland
nearby, spending time near trees, or even
looking at trees in the distance can also have
a healing effect. Patients in hospital have
been shown to recover faster if they have a
view of trees from their window; so even if
the weather’s bad or you have mobility
issues, you can still connect with nature by
observing it from indoors!
Another way to connect with Gaia is to bring
some symbols of nature into your home. You
could dedicate a corner of your home to your
Gaia altar, or simply place the items
somewhere you will look at them each day
so that you are reminded to connect with
earth energy as part of your regular routine.
Nurturing a houseplant that you dedicate to
the goddess might be a good way to do this.
Some plants are very easy to care for and
bring healing benefits to the home by
increasing oxygen levels in the air as well as
providing you with something beautiful to
look at. Learning about the needs of your
plant and taking the necessary steps to look
after it, if done with a view to connecting
more deeply with Mother Gaia, can become
a sacred spiritual ritual.
As well as houseplants, your Gaia altar
might also house gifts the goddess presents
to you when you’re walking with her in
nature. A collection of stones, feathers,
shells, twigs and dried flowers can create a
beautiful altar to Mother Gaia – and it
doesn’t need to be a dedicated space; you
might create such a spot on a window sill,
mantelpiece or bedside table so that you
notice the treasures of the natural world
every day. You could also add a dedicated
crystal to the mix! A nice way to do this is to
choose a crystal for the purpose of
connecting more deeply with Mother Gaia.
Allow your intuition to help you select the
right crystal for you at that time because all
stones come from the earth so all stones will
resonate deeply with Mother Gaia. Once you
have a chosen a crystal for this purpose, you
can place it on your altar and then,
whenever you go out into nature, take the
crystal with you with the intention that it
receive a “full charge” from Mother Gaia, and
then take it home with you and place it back
on the altar. Over a period of time, this
simple ritual can create a powerful energetic
tool that you can use for grounding, healing
and balancing your energy.
And finally, there are energy healing
techniques that you can use to help you
connect more deeply with earth energies. I
will outline a few of those available from
Mayastar that I feel would be most helpful
and which can enhance the other practices
recommended above.
First of all, the Elemental Pentagram & Magic
Circle Empowerments course. This modality
connects you with you with the five
elements: Earth, Air, Fire, Water & Spirit and
by learning to create a magick circle and
then invoke the elements, you can learn to
balance your energy and protect your energy
field. The ritual of creating the magick circle
and invoking the elements is extremely
powerful when worked outside in the natural
world and also enhances your skills with
visualisation, sensing subtle energy and
moving energy around.
My second recommendation is the Nature
Deva & Fairies Attunements course. This
modality facilitates connection with the
spirits of nature and the elemental beings
that tend to the processes of the natural
world. Working with these energies can help
you to connect deeply with Mother Nature
and feel her presence more consistently.
And my final recommendation is my personal
recommendation because this is the
modality I work with most often when I’m
connecting with the healing earth-centric
energies of Mother Gaia! The Lightworker
Animal Empowerments course includes
attunement to 17 different energies.
Although not specifically for earth-centric
energies, working with animal medicine
means connecting more deeply with the
spiritual aspect of different animals and that
can help you to experience a greater sense
of connection and openness to the natural
world and the power of Mother Gaia. Some
of the energies I find particularly useful for
tuning into the earth and finding grounding
through animal medicine are: Wolf, Bear,
Fox, Deer and Domestic Cat. The
Lightworker Animal Empowerments course
also includes the Animal Path Healing
Attunement which can help you to connect
with animal medicine and explore techniques
that can be used to bring their healing,
wisdom and guidance into your life.
